July 2010 - VENTUREFEST’S SAVE THE COUNTRY £1 MILLION COMPETITION WINNER ANNOUNCED
Senical, a national innovation company, has been announced the winner of Venturefest’s ‘Could you save the country £1 million’ competition. The competition challenged national businesses and educational institutions to submit ideas to help cut public sector spending.
The winning entry, called ‘Ban The Button®’, was a simple self-adhesive cover that fits on remote control standby buttons to ensure public sector employees switch off audio-visual appliances and other electronics at the wall rather than putting them on standby, saving public sector organisations significant energy costs.
Entries from all across the UK were voted for in a poll on the Venturefest website during the event, and the winning idea was announced in the closing speech by chairman of Venturefest Oxford, Dave Waller.
Dominic Jackson, Managing Director of Senical, commented: “We are delighted to have won the competition. Our ‘Ban The Button®’ product is just one example of a simple but very cost effective way of saving money and helping out the environment, and fits with our philosophy of practical problem solving through invention and innovation”
